About the speaker
Dr. Michael Gillenwater is the co-founder, Executive Director, and Dean of the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute, where he is widely regarded as a global leader in greenhouse gas (GHG) measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV), as well as carbon management and environmental accounting. He has served as a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) four times, contributing to the organization’s 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. Michael is also an inaugural member of several key governance bodies, including the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Technical Council, the ICVCM Expert Panel, and GHG Protocol Technical Working Groups. Earlier in his career at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, he established the U.S. national GHG emissions inventory program and participated on the U.S. negotiating team to the UNFCCC. He is also co-founder and co-Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed journal Carbon Management.
